For National Cholesterol Month, Dad.Info talks with London Doctors Clinic Founder, Dr. Seth Rankin, about high cholesterol, the problems associated with high cholesterol, and how you can control it with healthier eating.

The article discusses:

What is Cholesterol?

A type of fat, transferred through our blood, that can build up plaque and block the flow of blood.

How do I know if I have high Cholesterol?

Unless you have had a cholesterol test, you probably don't! These can be done as individual tests or as part of a full medical check up.

What foods should I avoid?

The best way to lower cholesterol is by exercising regularly and avoiding saturate fats, which usually comes from eating animal products like meat, butter, cheese and milk, but also things like palm oil and coconut oil.

What else can I do to lower my cholesterol?

Grilling foods instead of frying, replacing dairy products with non-dairy alternatives, eat more fish instead of other meats, etc.

Good Cholesterol Consumption:

Grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, and seeds all have "good cholesterol" that can lower cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol Screening:

It's recommended to get tested properly at least every five years, particularly if you are high risk. These can be done with a simple blood test.
