The union for doctors and medical students in the UK - the British Medical Association - has made new recommendations regarding 'fit notes' (commonly known as 'sick notes'). The BMA recommends that employers should have more trust in their employees not to fake illness, as not to take up NHS GP appointments for Fit Notes. 

The current Government policy for employee sickness in the UK, is that after a period of seven or more days of more, the employee must provide proof of illness in the form of a GP’s ‘fit note’. This is a formal doctor’s note, usually provided by a GP, assessing your health post-illness, before stating you are now fit to work again.
