Sleep Screen – Virtual Sleep Screening
Our new Virtual Sleep Screen brings the latest sleep monitoring technology to you and allows our medical experts to monitor how you sleep via a cloud portal. The sleep screen provides an in-depth look at how you sleep and ongoing 12-month support. Through our partnership with OURA, we’re able to track multiple data touchpoints through the OURA ring whilst you sleep, showing a cohesive view of your physical and mental health all in one place.
Unlike many other health trackers, the OURA ring can track your temperature which can be a key determinate to underlying health conditions or the onset of an illness. Such is the accuracy of this data that the University of California, San Francisco is running a pioneering study with OURA users to identify patterns of onset, progression and recovery of the coronavirus.
What is tracked by the sleep screen?
We know that during your sleep, your body performs a huge number of vital sequences to prepare and repair yourself for the next day. If you don’t get enough sleep, this impacts not only your short term physical health and mental alertness, but it impacts your long term health and mental wellbeing.
At a very top level, the sleep screen tracks your heart rate, heart rate variability, temperature, sleep duration and quality, sleep cycles (REM and NREM), your daily activity and readiness for the next day. There are 41 one individual data points that it tracks every single day
That’s where our experts come in to analyse and explain what your data is telling you about your health and how you can use this data to get more out of your sleep and optimise both your physical and mental health.
Who should have a sleep screen?
The sleep screen is for everyone who wants to better understand their body and how to improve their sleep.
From athletes and fitness enthusiasts looking to improve their training and fitness to those struggling with sleep disorders looking to track, diagnose and treat their condition. With the 12-month video subscription and discounted GP, dietitian and counselling services included in your screen, we will support you throughout this process.
The OURA ring
The OURA ring is advanced technology that measures your body’s movement, pulse, and temperature all through a tiny ring that fits seamlessly into your daily life. The ring’s sensors include infrared LEDs, NTC temperature sensors, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope to capture your bodies measurements.
Why does sleep matter?
The impact of sleep on our health and wellbeing has become the foundation of a healthy life. We all know we should sleep between 7 – 9 hours a night, however, many adults are chronically sleep-deprived surviving on an average of 6 hours 19 minutes in the UK.
But why does this matter? When we sleep our body can perform essential tasks to keep our bodies healthy. Evidence-based benefits of sleep include:
- Enhances memory recall
- Increases creativity
- Protects you from dementia
- Lowers the risk of cancer
- Improve immune system
- Lowers risk of heart attacks, stroke and diabetes
- Improves feelings of stress and anxiety
- Reduces risk of depression
- Reduces food cravings and help you maintain a healthy weight
Whereas, studies have shown the impact of chronic sleep deprivation affects the body in two ways:
Sleep loss affects the brain by increasing the risk of:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Bipolar disorder
- Chronic pain
Sleep loss affects the body by increasing the risk of:
- Heart attack
- Weight gain & obesity
- Immune deficiencies
With these sobering risks, it’s time all of us took our sleep more seriously.
