Planning on Running an Ultra-marathon? Great, we wish you the best of luck! However, due to the intense nature of the ultra marathon it is likely that you will need to present some form of proof that you’re medically sound to undertake the race.

An ultra-marathon is anything above 26.2 miles long (or 42 km). This is difficult mentally and physically as Pheidippides, the man who ran from Marathon to Athens can testify to. He ran without regards to his health and suffered the consequences. So don’t be like Pheidippides, get a certificate and make sure that you’re in full health to take on this challenge. The certificate must state there are no contra-indications to running in competition, be stamped and signed by the examining GP, and have been issued within 12 months of race day. You will be provided with a 30 minute consultation with a private GP which offers the highest service on the sport frontier, with many other sports medicals on offer on our website, to make sure you’re at the top of your game!

Per BMJ recommended guidelines, we also include a resting ECG in the for the ultra marathon medical.
