TINNITUS AWARENESS WEEK

Tinnitus Awareness Week

This February, from the 6th-12th, is Tinnitus Awareness Week, which aims to increase awareness and treatment options. It has been estimated that around 50% of people in the UK have experienced Tinnitus.

Tinnitus is an issue that causes a ringing or buzzing sound in the ear, which is not reliant on external sources.

Tinnitus is not usually a very serious condition, and for most people it may come and go but it can be continuous and therefore affect everyday life. Severe cases may be serious, causing issues such as insomnia and even depression.

In most cases, the condition usually does not last long, but it is important to see your GP to find the cause of the underlying issue. It may be as simple as a build up of earwax that needs ear syringing but it could also be an issue such as an ear infection. So if you hear a persistent noise in your ear that has no discernable external noise it might be time to see your Doctor.
